Halal + Organic: Double-Certified Worth the Hunt

Halal describes the slaughter. Organic and regenerative describe the farm. They're separate audits by separate inspectors, and almost nobody pays for both — which is why halal shoppers usually have to choose between a certified slaughter and a decently raised animal. These four carry both marks and name both bodies.

How this list works. Every maker here is small or independent, actually ships what it makes, and earns its spot on merit — nobody pays to be listed. Two audits, both named: a halal certifier on the slaughter, and USDA Organic or a regenerative program on the ground the animal lived on.

Regenerative Organic + HFSAA

Greener Pastures Chicken

Elgin, TX · HFSAA-certified, Regenerative Organic Certified
$$$★★★★★🚛 Ground only

An Elgin, Texas farm running birds on pasture where they eat native plants, grasses, and insects alongside organic feed. The stack of marks is the unusual part: their halal page states the chicken is officially certified halal by HFSAA, on top of USDA Organic, Regenerative Organic Certified, Certified Humane, and Non-GMO Project Verified. Whole birds, every cut, plus livers at $15.99 and hearts at $19.99. Ships ground to the lower 48 on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Why it's worth findingRegenerative Organic Certified is a hard audit covering soil, animal welfare, and farmworkers, and stacking it on a hand-slaughter certification is a combination we couldn't find anywhere else in halal poultry.

Rock Tavern, NY · Halal Advocates-certified, certified organic
$$$★★★★★🚛 Ground only

Their FAQ states they're certified halal by Halal Advocates. Ships frozen.

Why it's worth findingOrganic feed and real pasture cost more per head, and paying for the halal audit on top of that is a choice no distributor makes on your behalf.

Regenerative Family Farm

Halal-N-Tayyib Meats

Macon, GA · HMS-certified, 100% grass-fed
$$$★★★★★🚛 Ground only

A Middle Georgia family raising 100% grass-fed beef, lamb, and goat on their own Healing Legacy Farm with regenerative grazing, hand-slaughtered under Halal Monitoring Services certification — HMS lists them by name and city. USDA-inspected, no antibiotics or hormones. The name is the argument: tayyib means wholesome, and they treat it as the second half of halal rather than a marketing word.

Why it's worth findingGrass-finishing takes months longer than grain, so this only exists where a family decided the animal's life belonged in the standard alongside the knife.

Organic Broth, HFSAA

Seasonal Sips

California · HFSAA-certified organic bone broth
$$$★★★★🚛 Ground only

Organic bone broth in beef and chicken, 24 oz, started by a mother of six who went looking for one after an illness and ended up making it. HFSAA lists Seasonal Sips by name and URL with both broths as certified products — their own label says organic and zabiha halal without naming the body, so the certifier's roster is the evidence here. Ships across the US; bulk three-packs and cleanse bundles from $49.99.

Why it's worth findingBroth concentrates whatever the animal was, which is exactly why the organic-and-certified pairing matters more here than in a steak.

Straight Answers
Halal + Organic: Double-Certified FAQ
Does halal certification say anything about how the animal was raised?

No. Halal governs the slaughter — a swift hand-cut by a Muslim with God's name invoked, the animal alive and healthy, blood drained. Feed, pasture access, antibiotics, and stocking density all sit outside it. That's the entire reason a second certification is worth hunting for.

What is 'tayyib', and why do some makers use the word?

Tayyib means wholesome, pure, good. The Qur'anic phrase pairs it with halal — halalan tayyiban — and a growing number of Muslim producers argue that a permissible slaughter of a badly raised animal satisfies only half the instruction. In practice, makers who use the word tend to mean pasture, no routine antibiotics, and slower growth.

What does Regenerative Organic Certified require beyond USDA Organic?

It sits on top of organic certification and adds audited requirements across three pillars: soil health through cover cropping, reduced tillage and rotational grazing; animal welfare with genuine pasture and no confinement; and social fairness covering farmworker pay and conditions. It's a much smaller program than USDA Organic and considerably harder to hold.

Is grass-fed beef actually different, or is it just a label?

It's a real difference in the animal's life and in the meat: leaner, with more yellow fat from carotene in the grass, a stronger and more mineral flavor. It's also less forgiving on the grill because there's less fat buffering the heat. Cook it a bit cooler and rest it longer than you would grain-finished.
