Best Snake Food & Frozen Feeders Worth the Hunt

A snake's food is whole prey — almost always frozen-thawed rodents sized to its body — and where you buy them matters more than new keepers realize. Quality feeder suppliers raise their rodents on clean diets, flash-freeze for freshness, euthanize humanely, and grade sizes precisely so you get the right pinky, fuzzy, hopper, or rat every time. Cheap, freezer-burned, poorly-sized feeders are a false economy. These are the suppliers reptile keepers trust to feed their snakes right.

Snake Food FAQ
What do pet snakes eat?

Nearly all pet snakes are obligate carnivores that eat whole prey — most commonly frozen-thawed rodents (mice or rats) sized to the snake. Whole prey provides complete nutrition, so a properly sized feeder rodent is a full meal; there is no pellet or kibble substitute for the vast majority of snakes.

Should I feed my snake frozen or live prey?

Frozen-thawed is strongly recommended. A live rodent can bite and seriously injure or even kill a snake, especially if left unattended. Frozen-thawed prey is safer, more convenient, storable, and — from a quality supplier — humanely produced. Always thaw fully and warm to about 100°F before offering.

What size prey should I feed my snake?

Feed prey roughly as wide as the widest part of your snake's body. A correctly sized meal leaves a small, gentle bump — not a huge bulge. As the snake grows you move up the size chart: pinky, fuzzy, hopper, adult mouse, then rat pups and up for larger species.

How often should I feed a snake?

It depends on age and species. Young, growing snakes typically eat every 5–7 days; adults often eat every 1–2 weeks or longer, especially large constrictors. Feeding too often causes obesity, which is one of the most common health problems in captive snakes.
