Japanese Curry, and where to source it

Japanese Curry — 5best2buy.com 5BEST2BUY.COM Japanese Curry Japanese 5best2buy.com

Japanese curry is really a slow braise, so a good cut of beef and potatoes that hold their shape are what turn it into a proper meal and keep it from sliding into gluey stew. Build the roux yourself by toasting flour in butter with the curry spices until it smells nutty; that one step gives the sauce a depth no bouillon block can match.

1 lb
Rice
Steamed short-grain white rice is the bed the curry pools over.
3 cups
Curry spices
Curry powder, garam masala, and a pinch of cayenne toasted into the roux for the backbone.
3 tbsp

Onions cooked down deep for sweetness, carrots in chunks, garlic and ginger grated in.

  4. ThickenStir the roux back into the pot with the potatoes and simmer until the sauce is thick enough to coat a spoon and the potatoes are tender. Serve over rice.

Straight Answers
Can you make Japanese Curry in an air fryer? — Yes, with an insert

Not on its own — an air fryer can’t hold a pool of liquid. You can simmer it in an oven-safe dish or a silicone insert made to fit the basket, but the broth won’t reduce or brown the way it does on the stove, and that insert comes out scorching, so use oven mitts. For real depth, a pot on the stove wins.

Can you freeze Japanese Curry? — Yes

Yes — it freezes well. Cool it fully, portion into airtight containers, and it keeps a few months; thaw in the fridge and reheat gently.

Can you make Japanese Curry ahead of time? — Yes

Yes — it holds well and often tastes better the next day. Make it ahead and reheat gently before serving.

Is Japanese Curry gluten-free? — Yes

Yes — nothing in this recipe as written contains gluten. As always, glance at the labels on any packaged items (broth, sauces, chocolate), since brands vary.

Is Japanese Curry vegan? — No

No — it contains meat, so it isn’t vegetarian or vegan.
